Chris Whisenant, the Phoenix Regional Manager, shares his experience with Copper State Bolt and Nut Company…
I’m new to the branch and the market, so my first goal was to get out and meet as many customers as I could. I set up an appointment with Copper State Bolt and Nut Co. and met with Kurt their IT Director.
We met and talked about the great service DP Air was providing with the CRAC and UPS Maintenance for the Data Center. I asked if they had a generator and they did not. He said that he wanted to get one put in a couple of years ago, because when the power goes out they have to get a temporary generator to run the Data Center. It takes about 3-4 hours to get a temporary generator set up, way too long. This Data Center runs all 19 branch locations in the nation, so if Phoenix goes down they all go down. Talk about a productivity killer!!
I simply asked Kurt, if DP Air could provide him with a budget for a generator and see if he might be able to get it approved? He said why not? I don’t know if my bosses will be receptive to it but let’s give it a try.
Johnny Burchett our Electrical Manager and myself surveyed the location and came up with an engineering and construction budget. I gave the budget to Kurt and 3 weeks later he got the project approved!
Our Electrical team did a great job of installing the 60kW CAT Generator and ATS. They crossed over the power to the generator flawlessly during the weekend and it fired right up. They also installed a system called GenTracker that send alerts to the customer via email or text when the generator turns on or off.
The inspector on the job said it was one of the cleanest installations that he had seen in a long time. Kurt couldn’t be happier with the outcome of the project and it has already prevented 2 outages since it was installed. Copper State Bolt and Nut Co. are already talking about adding more generators to their facilities. Great job overall by the DP Air team. Funny that a simple introduction and question resulted in a successful project and a DP Air customer for life.
